Lo Studio d'artista
2010
This is my first conceptual work created by invitation. My idea was to deal with the subject of the studio itself given that the host artist, Simona Frillici, wanted a work or intervention to take place in her studio, something more than a traditional exhibition. Through research, I selected a group of photographs of artists studios some made by the artists, some by photojournalists, some by studio caretakers, each having its own point of view and moment in time. From these, I selected elements which seemed to be symbolic or archetypical of different aspects of the studio, for example, the wood stove of the studio of Cezanne, representing the humility or “poverty” of the workplace, or the studio rocking chair of Agnes Martin, place of contemplation of both her work and the surrounding landscape. I adapted my familiar technique using a stencil and pounced selected elements of the photographs directly on the wall, or “papered” the wall with photocopied imagery.
Lo Studio d’Artista 2, was the second in a series of actions (Studio 1 /May 29 2010) conceived and implemented by Simona Frillici, in her studio situated in the historic center of the city of Perugia, Italy.

Solo exhibitions of works were created for the museum. Smaller cast concrete sculptures were placed throughout the space, both inside on two different levels and in the exterior. The interior gallery space included relief prints and spolvero drawings and outside this gallery I created a site specific spolvero drawing for the corridor wall, creating a dialogue between interior and exterior spaces and works.

The gallery occupies an industrial loft style place of high ceilings and skylights. It presented an impressive environment for the exhibition. Works displayed includes spolvero drawings on panel, canvas and Carrara marble chosen on site at a local quarry. The largest piece was trucked down and placed outside the gallery. I worked over the surfaces of the various pieces using a black powdered pigment with various stencils.
