Artist Statement

"My self-assigned task during this studio lock down is to spin the straw of paint into gold; to grab hold of the memory and experience of beloved artworks and construct these into new paintings (always); to take a heightened encounter with nature, the rain forest of Chiapas, and channel it into making an appearance in my studio; to recall and recapture a moment of culture, the decaying murals at Bonampak, laid bare in the tangled humid forest air; to adorn, in ribbons of hue-soaked color, backgrounds composed of translucent forms, doubling, tripling, quadrupling, to evoke an emotional state by appealing to the senses, Baroque, primeval, primary.
May painting forever be my time machine."
